Lent 2018 at UPG
Wondering and Wandering to Unknown Ventures

Many of us have heard the following questions on long family trips – “Dad, where are we going?” “Mom, are we there, yet?” “How much longer is it going to take?”

Such questions have surely been pondered by many of our brothers and sisters of United Proclamation of the Gospel. For Messiah and St. Matthew’s congregations, the journey to merger has been long, lasting four years and resulting in the formation of Light of Christ Lutheran Church. Then, suddenly, a new level of consideration about co-operative ministry appeared with the proposal of United Proclamation of the Gospel (UPG) that added a new partner with the participation of St. Peter’s Congregation. For members of St. Peter’s, there have also been many changes and challenges since late summer that, to many, have seemed sudden and unexpected.

In some fashion or another, all of us who are now involved in the UPG, have been Wondering and Wandering in our spiritual response to the new challenges in mission and ministry, much of which will continue to unfold as time moves on.

With all that in mind, it seems appropriate to use the Season of Lent to connect with the revelations of God for our faith community by reflecting on the unique ministries of the three cooperating faith communities that form UPG, raising up biblical stories of Wondering and Wandering, and inviting each of our unique stories to enrich and help form a new identity as we journey into God’s future for us and the surrounding community.
